BJP to hold booth level meetings at 1,000 places in Puducherry today

The meetings, which will mark the birth anniversary of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will highlight the achievements of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the union territory.

The Puducherry unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to organize booth level meetings at over 1,000 places in the Union Territory on the occasion of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s birthday on December 25.

Former MLA and party president V. Saminathan said in a press conference on Friday that meetings would be held to highlight the achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government in the union territory. Home Minister A. Namasivayam were also present.

“Vajpayee believed in good governance and Mr Modi is following the path of the former Prime Minister. The local unit will organize booth level meetings on good governance. He said that along with the birthday celebrations on Saturday, a concert would also be organized at Beach Road.

In the last six months, the NDA government has taken several steps, especially focusing on pro-poor schemes. He also highlighted the measures taken in the Union Territory Police Department, including the decision to recruit 360 constables.

“Earlier, Sri Narayanasamy (former chief minister) could only meet Union ministers and officials in New Delhi during the previous Congress government. Now, NDA ministers are free to meet the Prime Minister and Union Ministers to discuss issues related to Puducherry,” Mr Saminathan said.

When reporters told that Chief Minister N. Rangasamy did not meet the prime minister or ministers in New Delhi after assuming office, so Mr. Namasviyam said it was for the chief minister to decide. “Even though it is a coalition government, the chief minister has to take a decision on meeting the prime minister. We cannot comment on his decision.”

Mr Namasivayam said the BJP central leadership had directed the local units of the party to form committees to educate the public on the need for vaccination against COVID-19. “The party leadership has asked us to form committees for parents to educate children about vaccinations whenever approvals are given for children below 18 years of age. We are also educating the elderly to get jabs to do the same at the earliest,” he said.
