BJP will face opposition from people like Sri Lanka, Afghanistan: Abhishek Banerjee

Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), claiming that it will face opposition from people like Sri Lanka and Afghanistan due to the continuous rise in fuel prices in the country.

He claimed that the Mamata Banerjee government of West Bengal is putting money in the hands of women through a scheme, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi is raising the prices of LPG to around Rs 1,100 per cylinder.

He said that the prices of petrol and diesel are also increasing continuously.

Addressing a public meeting in Dhupguri, Mr. Banerjee said, “What happened in Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, I am sure the people of India will create a similar situation against the BJP.”

Protesters in crisis-hit Sri Lanka recently stormed the official residences of the president and prime minister, though they had already left. However, why Mr. Banerjee mentioned Afghanistan is not clear.

Mr. Banerjee also said that the TMC’s North Bengal leaders, due to which voters turned away from the party in the last Lok Sabha and assembly elections, would not get tickets in the next panchayat elections.
