Blue Origin confirms Star Trek’s Captain Kirk will travel into space

Star Trek’s Captain Kirk will soon travel to a place no other science-fiction actor has traveled before.

Jeff Bezos-owned space travel company Blue Origin announced on Monday that Canadian actor William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk in the famous science-fiction series Star Trek, will enter space on October 12.

Indeed, 90-year-old Shatner will be the oldest person to fly in space. “I’ve heard about space for a long time. I’m taking this opportunity to see it for myself. What a miracle,” Shatner said.

He will join three others aboard the Blue Origin capsule – two of them paying customers. This will be the company’s second launch with Crew.

Bezos was on the first flight in July with his brother and the youngest and oldest person to fly into space. Shatner would break that upper limit by six years.

Also flying with Shatner: a former NASA engineer who founded a nanosatellite company; co-founder of a software company specializing in clinical research; And a Blue Origin employee. The up and down space hop will last 10 minutes and reach no more than approximately 66 miles (106 kilometers).
