BMRCL introduces short duration one and three day passes

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has introduced day-long and three-day passes that will allow holders to use Namma Metro for unlimited travel for the duration. The passes are on the lines of the passes issued by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC).

While the initiative will come in handy for commuters who do not need monthly Namma Metro smart cards, especially the rates for day passes, people are skeptical of its success. BMRCL has priced the one day pass at ₹200, while the three day pass will cost ₹400.

The passes will be available at all Metro ticket counters. Both the one- and three-day passes include a security deposit of ₹50, which will be returned to the commuter in good condition at any of the customer centers of metro stations on return of the smart card.

“It’s a great idea. Many people who come to the city for short periods on private or business trips will find it useful. However, I doubt how attractive ₹200 for a day pass will be, even That even if the deposit is refunded. How many people will do so many trips in a day to make it worth paying ₹200? A slightly longer pass would be more beneficial, and BMRCL should consider introducing a 7-day pass as well ,” said Suresh Kumar of Kasturinagar.

Another regular traveler, Susan Varghese, had a similar opinion. “When my parents come to visit me I can buy short term passes for them. But the day pass is expensive. To take advantage of the pass I have to go from Baiyappanahalli to Kengeri and back three times. It would be cheaper to buy individual tokens even for multiple short trips,” she said.

Refund for unclaimed top-up

BMRCL has also announced that it will refund the unclaimed online smart card top-up along with a cancellation fee of 2.5% of the recharge amount. This will come into effect from April 2. “The recharge amount for the smart card i.e. website or mobile app done online by the passengers can be updated on their smart card by tapping on the AFC gate after one hour and within seven days from the time thereof. recharge or at Card Top-up Terminal (CTT) anytime within 15 days from the date of recharge,” BMRCL said in a press release.

However, if passengers are unable to update the balance on their Smart Card within 15 days, such unclaimed amount will be refunded (through the same channel) within 30 days from the date of recharge 2.5% Cancellation With deduction of fee. recharge amount, BMRCL said in a statement on Wednesday.
