Two new products have been introduced in the sub-400 cc fully faired sports bike segment in the recent months – 2022 KTM RC 390which made its India debut in May this year, and the recently launched BMW G 310 RR,
While both the motorcycles have introduced a new avatar, both of them are already present in the market in one form or the other. The previous generation version of the RC 390 was a fairly successful premium motorcycle in India, while the new bmw The G 310 RR is basically a rebadged version of the popular TVS Apache RR 310.
Here is a detailed face-to-face comparison between the two new sub-400cc fully faired sports bikes so that you can decide which one offers better value for your money –
engine specs
The BMW G 310 RR is powered by a 313 cc liquid-cooled fuel-injected single-cylinder engine similar to the Apache RR 310, producing a maximum power of 34 PS and peak torque of 27.3 Nm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

In contrast, the RC 390 draws power from the larger 373 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder DOHC engine that produces 43.5 PS power and 37 Nm torque, and is mated to a 6-speed transmission.

Suspension setup on the beamer includes a 41mm USD front fork with 140mm of travel, paired with a rear monoshock with 119mm of travel. It runs on 110/70 R 17 front and 150/60 R 17 rear tyres, while braking duties are taken care of with 300 mm disc up front, and 240 mm disc dual-channel ABS.
KTM The RC 390 gets a 43mm WP Apex USD front fork with 120mm of travel, along with a 10-step preload adjustable WP Apex monoshock at the rear with 150mm of travel. Braking duties are taken care of with disc brakes – 320 mm at the front and 230 mm at the rear, with dual-channel ABS. The tire sizes on the KTM are the same as the BMW G 310 RR – 110/70 R17 at the front and 150/60 R17 at the back.

On the feature front, the TVS Apache RR 310 gets four riding modes (Track, Urban, Rain, Sport), all-LED lighting, 5.0-inch color TFT display, a bi-directional quickshifter as well as traction control.
The KTM RC 390 gets a range of ‘Grand Prix inspired electronics’ including Motorcycle Traction Control (MTC), QuickShifter+, lean-angle sensitive cornering ABS and Supermoto mode. Other features include a TFT display with KTM My Ride, power-assisted anti-hopping slipper clutch, 2-step height adjustable handlebar, as well as all-LED lighting.
