Despite his sincerity to play a challenging role, two hours are short to accept Abhishek Bachchan as Bob Biswas and erase Shashwat Chatterjee from memory in this spin-off of ‘Kahaani’.

This week, writer-producer Sujoy Ghosh joins hands with director Diya Ghosh, who happens to be his daughter – to take a dip in her life. Story universe – and decides to tell us the story of Bob Biswas (Abhishek Bachchan replaces Saswata Chatterjee), an unlikely murderer who nearly hit Vidya Bagchi (Vidya Balan) in the original before meeting with an accident. Bob, whose phrase was one minute, He spent no more than ten minutes on the screen, but his strange charm was such that he lived on in public memory.

Curiously, Bob has lost his memory bank. Forced to do his business this time, Sujoy takes us to the unusual hitman’s home and family and promises to open his mind to us. But, apart from the usual moral dilemmas of a man who lives two lives, Bob still remains a mystery. We still don’t know why he does what he does.

Once again, Sujoy manages to draw us into the web of a crime story set in Kolkata. Back alleys, ghastly nightclubs and songs playing in the background A. rejuvenate the nervous energy of Story That you haven’t forgotten even a decade after you first heard it.

Once again, he imbues the script with social concerns such as unrealistic pressure on students appearing for competitive exams and mischievously tells us what happens to reality show stars who make up a large section of the population in the eastern part of the country. Huh. he slips into bangla words like Dorkar (needed) in the dialogues, which find a singular resonance with the Hindi-speaking audience, and Diya has cleverly placed veteran Bengali actors who create a believable texture to unfold the story. In fact, Bob’s conversation with Kali Paul (Paran Bandyopadhyay), a homeopathy pharmacist who keeps a handful of secrets, provides a mythological layer to the crime story and a kind of spiritual acknowledgment for the murderer’s actions. .

However, for a story that entices us in its complexity, its resolutions are simple. The memory of Bob, a key force in getting the wheel rolling, returns rather easily. The backstory of his wife Mary (Chitrangada Singh) is as predictable as applying homeopathy tropes to a Bengali setting.

Despite his sincerity to play a challenging role, two hours are short to accept Abhishek Bachchan as Bob Biswas and erase Shashwat Chatterjee from memory. what a surprise Dorkar To replace him with a familiar face.

Bob exudes a strange mix of confidence and self-doubt. He can be sharp and weak-knee at the same time. Abhishek may be carrying the bob inside, but the punches and prosthetics prevent the expression from seeping through effectively and continuously. They are merely a reminder that he is imitating a character who became iconic because it was against the type. As it struck a chord, it seems, the makers are trying to create a new fundamental ideals Bob out. It adds variety to Abhishek’s filmography but in Sujoy’s work, it might just fill the compromising column.

Not long after, Chitrangada Singh gets a solid role as Bob’s likeable wife. Perhaps, the casting director was given an undercover agent’s view of Mary. He described it as a drug for Bob’s fading memory and libido. Chitrangada fits the description, and like Abhishek, she tries hard to assimilate into the middle-class environment, but doesn’t always succeed in giving off the uber-chic stuff. Mary shines among the timid men around her and, along with Kaali Babu, seemed like an interesting material for the next spin-off. But Sujoy has other plans.

not so memorable Story, But, nonetheless a story on which you can bow your head for once.
