Bobby Deol on Imtiaz Ali not casting him in Jab We Met: ‘He was a good friend, it happens to every actor’

Bobby Deol reveals he was not cast in Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met.

Bobby Deol says he has no hard feelings that Imtiaz Ali didn’t cast him in both Jab We Met and Highway.

Actor Bobby Deol recently talked about not acting in Imtiaz Ali’s Jab We Met. He mentioned that people take decisions not by choice but by helplessness and it happens with every actor as well.

Speaking to BBC Hindi, Bobby Deol said, “Ab ye baat mein bahut sal agony interview mein bol di (I said this in an interview many years ago). It happens with every actor. I don’t want to repeat it. Because Imtiaz Ali was once a very good friend of mine and I want to honor our friendship. The actor continued, “Everyone has compulsions and we take decisions. And their decision is probably the decision of a friend even among friends. Feel bad. This keeps happening.

In an interview with HuffPost in 2017, Deol had said, “I read that Ashtavinayak has signed Imtiaz for Jab We Met and Kareena is doing a film! And he asked his then-boyfriend Shahid Kapoor to star opposite him. I was like, Wow. Quite an industry. We had to do Highway together too but he did his job again. But I don’t have any hard feelings towards him. He’s a great director and doing a great job. We are still friends. But I always tell him: ‘Imtiaz, I won’t watch any of your films until you make one with me. That will be your best film.’

Jab We Met was released in 2007 with Kareena Kapoor Khan and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles. The romantic comedy also featured Tarun Arora, Dara Singh, Pawan Malhotra and Saumya Tandon in lead roles. The film was backed by Dhillon Mehta, while Imtiaz Ali wrote and directed the project.

On the work front, Bobby Deol has a busy calendar with Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal. The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna in lead roles and is slated to release in August next year. Deol also appeared in Class of ’83, for which he was awarded Best OTT Actor by the Lions Gold Awards. She also starred in Ashram in 2020 and was recently featured in Love Hostel.
