“Parasite” filmmaker will write and direct an untitled film based on Edward Ashton’s upcoming novel “Mickey7”.
Nearly two years after the record-breaking success of “Parasite,” Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho has found his next film, which is expected to star “The Batman” star Robert Pattinson.

The director will also support the project through his production banner Offscreen with Doho Choi for Kate Street Picture Company and Plan B.
The novel by Macmillan’s Impression Saint Martin, to be published in 2022, follows Mickey 7, The Expendable: a disposable worker on a manned expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim.
“Whenever there is a mission that is too dangerous – even suicidal – the crew turns to Mickey. After the death of an itinerant, a new body is resurrected with most of its memories. After six deaths, Mickey 7 understands the terms of his deal … and why it was the only colonial position when he took it,” reads the book’s synopsis.
While the film will be inspired by the novel, sources said that given Bong’s style of working with the adaptation, his version may differ from the source material. His 2013 post-apocalyptic sci-fi film “Snowpiercer” was based on the French graphic climate fiction novel “Le Transparcenage” by Jacques Loeb, Benjamin Legrand and Jean-Marc Rochette.
According to Deadline, author Ashton submitted the unpublished book’s manuscript to Bong in late 2021.
Interest in the story grew and the acclaimed filmmaker loosely joined the project late last year. It is said that Bong met some of Hollywood’s most promising stars before meeting Pattinson after meeting him.
‘Parasite’ won the 2019 Oscar. A first for a Korean-language film, including Best Picture and Best Director wins.
The film will be the South Korean filmmaker’s second collaboration with WarnerMedia, following the HBO limited series based on the film, with Adam McKay in the works with Bong executive producer.
Pattinson’s next “The Batman” is a Warner Bros. film, set for release on March 4.
