Boxer Sumit enters semi-finals of Thailand Open Boxing News – Times of India

New Delhi: Indian boxer Sumit (75 kg) entered the semi-finals Thailand Open with a comfortable win Timur Nursitov in Phuket, Thailand on Tuesday.
Sumit, who got a bye in the opening round, was in good touch throughout the bout. He registered a 5-0 win against Kazakhstan’s Nursitov in the quarter-final match.

Sumit became the fourth Indian to enter the last four stages. Monica (48 kg), Ashish Kumar (81kg) and Manisha (57kg) have already reached the semi-finals.
However, it was tough for Gaurav Chauhan (91kg), who lost 1-4 to 2018 Youth Olympic champions Abek Oralbe of Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals.
Six Indian boxers will be seen in action on Wednesday.
While Bhagyabati Kachari (75kg), Amit Panghali (52kg) and Rohit Mor (57kg) will play in their quarterfinals, Govind Sahni (48), Varinder Singh (60kg) and Ashish Kumar (81kg) will clash for a place in the final.
The tournament featured 130 boxers, including 74 men and 56 women, from Asia, Europe, Oceania and Africa.
The gold medal winners will receive USD 2000, while the silver and bronze winners will receive USD 1000 and USD 500 respectively.
The Indian contingent had won eight medals, including one gold, four silver and three bronze, in the final edition of the tournament held in 2019.
