season two bridgerton Last week dropped amidst much hype and anticipation and introduced two new characters – sisters Kate and Edwina Sharma, who recently arrived in London from Bombay. As it is in an alternate historical universe where society was racially integrated, the audience was not surprised to see two native women as the beginnings of society in Regency-era England. The research that Netflix shows conducted before introducing the two Indian characters came as a surprise to many.
Between playing ‘Maruli’ (an instrument that doesn’t exist), reading Ghalib (who was not yet writing in the period when the show was set), and speaking ‘Hindustani’ – to the native audience. found the show a lot to criticize. On Twitter, opinions differed as to what the worst crime was.
“It’s hard to pick a favorite clumsy Indian reference on this bridgerton2But I must ask Edwina Anthony if she has read ‘Guhlib’,” wrote one Twitter user.

The reference to Ghalib, in fact, angered many. Writer Shiv Ramdas pointed out that the famous poet, who was born in 1797, must have been just 16 years old in the time period in which the show is set.
Apparently he had a time machine in Bridgeton that gave him access to future writings by the then 16-year-old Ghalib, who at the time had written … absolutely nothing

People also made issue of Ghalib’s pronunciation.
Anyone who declared Ghalib as Ghalib was born and brought up in India? #bridgetonpic.twitter.com/NN4uFhYZkn

On the show, endorsing many of her sister Edwina’s qualities, Kate says she is fluent in both “Marathi and Hindustani” – another point that created a storm online. Given that Hindustani is not a colloquial term, many viewers felt that it would have been better to avoid the show.
I’m not seeing Bridgerton, but I’m annoyed that they refer to “Hindustani” as a language and ppl on reddit/google say it’s correct. Personally, I don’t remember anyone ever referring to Hindi/Hindi-Urdu as Hindustani, except perhaps in older books. Sounds *very* colonial. uh.

In the same scene, Kate says that her sister plays a musical instrument named Maruli. The audience wondered whether the shoemakers meant to say “fife” or flute.
As far as I know, there is no language ‘Hindustani’ or any instrument ‘Maruli’. Hindi and Murli (Flute) are definitely there. I wonder if . producer of @bridgeton Shouldn’t have done at least some research and checked the correct words before introducing the gray letters #bridgetonpic.twitter.com/XOBLD467lY

Also what on earth is “maruli”? Is this his way of saying flute? , #bridgeton#bridgetonseason2#bridgetons2#culturalcacophony# rubbish words#AppaItSeems#hodgepodge#purplepatchpic.twitter.com/lYXYh0pvFr

There were many other mistakes that upset the audience
Hence #bridgetons2 Stars two South Asian women in the lead roles, gives their characters the last name Sharma, they are believed to speak Marathi and Hindustani but they refer to their father as ‘Appa’, and the elder sister to the younger ‘Bon’. says.
too confused? #bridgetonpic.twitter.com/668uGsM4uN

Since when is Sharma Maharashtrian? @bridgeton , And what is ‘Hindustani’ after all?#bridgetonpic.twitter.com/LNfPos97sk

I had another problem with him- calling his father- Appa, but calling his elder sister Didi. From which part of India have these Urdu speaking Sharma ji’s daughters come??

But some things went right on the show – fans were delighted to see Kate sip her tea Cardamom (Cardamom), Turmeric function and much more. Of course, the bonus was coveted sometimes happy sometimes sad Music playing in background.

This s2 of . the smallest things in #bridgeton Which is really special to me. A special case is when Kate is making tea but she first uses whole spices to make the tea like many South Asians do when making tea. #bridgetonseason2pic.twitter.com/pZ6VHx6qQ1

All the little bits of South Asian culture sprinkled in were great. Like applying oil to the hair, making tea with all the ingredients, the turmeric ceremony and the bangles Kate wore. Add K3G as a background music, watching it in Hollywood shows was real. #bridgetonpic.twitter.com/BkX1zOu532
