One of the last hand-signed cards on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II was given to an elderly couple in the UK, making them one of the few in the world to receive the honour. According to a report in Metro, Tricia Pont and her husband Ray opened the card on their 60th wedding anniversary. The Surrey couple said they were ‘privileged’ to have one of the last cards signed by the Queen. Many couples in the UK who celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary this year received such cards.
After opening the card, Pont and her husband Ray, both in their early eighties, went out to lunch to celebrate. It was only after he returned home from lunch that he came to know of the death of the queen. As the last few to receive signed correspondence from the Queen, the octogenarians now want to cherish the card.
“This makes the card even more precious and poignant as we were one of the last to receive correspondence from him. We are a big supporter of him, he is a great role model for the entire nation and admired him for his conservatism She was really committed,” Ray was quoted as saying by Metro.co.uk.
Tricia, who previously worked at Citizen’s Advice, described herself as a “total royalist” whom the Queen had the privilege of seeing several times. As a child, he was taken to London by his parents on the Queen’s wedding night with the Duke of Edinburgh in 1947. In the late 1990s, she was seen on behalf of the monarch at a garden party at Buckingham Palace. Girl Guides Association “The queen was just charming. I didn’t get to talk to her, but she was lovely and radiant,” she said.
