British archaeologists excavate a weapon of revenge launched by Nazi Germany in 1945

One of the avenging weapons deployed by Nazi Germany during World War II, known as the V2 rocket, was recently dug up in an area in south east England, where it crashed and lost its ground. The explosion took place before reaching the target. The dangerous weapon deployed by former German dictator Adolf Hitler was intended to land in London, however, it crashed and landed in a deserted field.

According to a recent report live scienceThis conflict is the sixth major excavation of the V2 site led by archaeologists and siblings Colin and Sean Welch, who have spent more than a decade investigating the sites of Nazi weapons launched in the British capital. The latest excavations of the V2 rocket took place near Platt, a village near Maidstone in England. Live Science reports that researchers recovered more than 800 kilograms of metallic debris, including large fragments of the V2 rocket’s combustion chamber. At the time it landed in the field, the area was an orchard and was far from any residential area. Although no one was hurt, an elderly woman said that the noise of the explosion damaged her hearing.

According to a blog post from Excellency Services, a V2 rocket fired at Platt from The Hague, Netherlands at about 12.25 pm, arriving five minutes later on February 14, 1945. The rocket had achieved a speed of up to five times the speed of sound in the first minute of launch, after which the engine was shut down automatically, and the missile flew into space at about 88.5 kilometers high, before reaching the speed of sound. He fell on the ground in the plot 3.5 times.

To excavate the remains of the V2 rocket, the team gathered for four days in the last week of September and used a mechanical digger and shovel. The Live Science report noted that the team would work for 18 months to preserve the objects before releasing the official results of their analysis. With the help of metal detectors, the research team found the deepest remnants of the explosion, which were more than 4.3 meters underground.
