Siraj, who did not play the first Test in Kanpur, made it to the second match after Ishant Sharma was ruled out due to injury. With Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami being rested from the two-match series, Chopra says Siraj’s performance ensured that India did not miss out on any of their key pacers.

“They didn’t let us miss anyone. We didn’t talk about Ishant getting injured, we didn’t talk about Bumrah and Shami not playing. When Mohammed Siraj is there, we miss Bumrah and Shami. Hindustan Times,

The delivery that got rid of Taylor received special praise, seeing as how it straightened enough after pitching to penetrate past the batsman and dislodge the off-stump.

“You can come in working hard and bowl with passion but you need skill to take wickets at this level and he has that skill. The ball with which he dismissed Ross Taylor was almost impossible, moving as little as he needed to move,” said Chopa.

Siraj finished with figures of 3/19 in his opening spell of four overs and did not need to bowl again as India’s spinners took control. Ravichandran Ashwin scored 4/8 while Axar scored 2/14 as New Zealand posted 62 in 28.1 overs in reply to India’s 325 in the first innings.

The two-match series is currently 0–0 and the Kanpur Test ends in a draw.
