BYJU, NITI Aayog partner to provide free education to children in 112 aspirational districts

Edtech major Byju’s on Friday said it has partnered with NITI Aayog to provide free access to its technology-driven learning programs for children from 112 “aspirational districts” of the country. The project envisages setting up of a dedicated working group which will create a knowledge, innovation and strategy support system, a statement said.

The team will also actively monitor and evaluate program implementation to enable effectiveness and ensure better scope of delivery. Aspirational districts are India’s most developmentally challenged districts in areas such as health and nutrition; Education; agriculture and water resources; Basic Infrastructure; and financial inclusion and skill development.

Technology has played a vital role in ensuring continuity and many classes have moved to the ‘online’ format. Amitabh Kant, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), NITI Aayog, said, “In many ways it has catalyzed the growth of innovations in education, and it is imperative for us to re-imagine education and keep pace with these innovations.

He said that effective use of technology in education can help in change and BYJU’s involvement will give opportunity to the students of these aspirational districts to get quality education.

The collaboration will have two main components, wherein BYJU’s career-plus program (under Aakash + BYJU) will provide high quality exam preparation coaching to 3000 meritorious students of Class 11 and 12 who aspire to appear for NEET and JEE. Also, a voluntary program will be organized for children of school-going age (classes 6-12) who can choose to receive educational content for three years from Byju’s Learning App, its social impact initiative, all for education, the statement said. .

The initiative combines classroom and online learning, thus providing a hybrid model of education, the statement said. It added that in addition to dedicated centers to implement support, students will also have access to digital infrastructure in the form of devices (tablets/smartphones).
