The Calcutta High Court on Monday granted interim relief to Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari in connection with the summons of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) in connection with the investigation into the death of his bodyguard Subhobrata Chakraborty.

Earlier today, BJP’s Nandigram MLA was summoned by the CID to the headquarters at Bhavani Bhavan in connection with the death of his bodyguard Subhobrata Chakraborty, where he did not turn up saying that he was busy.

Justice Raj Shekhar Mantha of Calcutta High Court has stayed proceedings in respect of cases registered at Contai Police Station and Nandigram Police Station on March 18, 2021.

“In the cases registered at Maniktalla and Tamluk police stations, the investigation may continue. No coercive action should be taken. The state shall provide any information on the petitioner. The state shall also obtain the permission of the court before arrest or coercive action in any case.” For the time being. In cases where his name is not mentioned in the FIR, he will be allowed to continue and he will co-operate with the investigating officers,” the court said.

The court directed that the Investigating Officer shall accommodate the officer from his convenient place, if he is required to make a statement or make a statement. A detailed reason has to be given.

“Since he is the leader of the opposition, please accommodate him. The detailed reason will be known later,” the court said.

Keeping in view the facts of the case, the FIR in which the officer has been named is stayed.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari was summoned by the West Bengal CID in connection with the unnatural death of his guard Subhabrata Chakraborty.

Earlier in July, a four-member CID team had visited Purva Medinipur to investigate Chakraborty’s death. The case pertains to Chakraborty, who died under suspicious circumstances three years ago.

The case was taken up by the CID on July 14 from Kanthi police station in Purba Medinipur. The case was registered by Chakraborty’s wife Suparna Kanjilal Chakraborty.
