A Delhi court on Monday sent five people arrested in connection with the extortion case against Union Minister of State for Home Ajay Kumar Mishra to two-week judicial custody (JC). Duty magistrate Uddhav Kumar Jain remanded the accused to the JC till January 9, when the Delhi Police produced him before him at the end of his three-day custodial interrogation.

The police filed an application seeking judicial custody for two weeks, stating that there was no need for further interrogation. The court also accepted the police’s plea seeking voice samples of two accused Amit Kumar Manjhi and Nishant Singh Rana under the law.

Delhi Police had arrested five people in the case. The minister has been in the news recently after his son was arrested in connection with the October 3 Lakhimpur Kheri violence in which eight people, including four farmers and a journalist, were killed.
