calls for strengthening the domestic market to protect the coffee sector

Coffee Board is celebrating Field Day at its Technology Evaluation Center at Onivayal on Tuesday.

Addressing the media, M. Karuthamani, Joint Director, Coffee Board, said that the event would create a platform to learn about the latest techniques in coffee cultivation and improvement in coffee production.

Dr. Karuthamani said that the Board acts as a facilitator in the development of a strong domestic market.

Strengthening the domestic market is essential to protect the coffee sector from fluctuating international prices by acting as a buffer. Dr. Karuthamani said that it will shield growers against fluctuations in international coffee prices, provide excellent employment opportunities, and encourage entrepreneurship and overall improvement in the value chain.

Dr. M. Senthil Kumar, Director of Research, Central Coffee Research Institute, Chikkamagaluru, will begin the field visit at 9 a.m.

Dr. KG Jagdish, Chief Executive Officer and Secretary, Coffee Board will inaugurate an exhibition stall on the occasion.

District Collector A Geeta will be the chief guest. Various sessions will be handled by experts while progressive coffee farmers will be felicitated on the occasion.
