Can Late Harmohan Singh Yadav be BJP’s key to unlock the vote bank of his community?

While many of its rivals are still busy analyzing their performance in this year’s Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, the victorious Bharatiya Janata Party is already working on a roadmap for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP is now trying to unlock the Yadav (OBC) vote bank, which is a key factor in UP and Bihar. And some of its leaders think they may have found the key.

PM’s virtual address Narendra Modi Chaudhary Harmohan Singh Yadav’s 10th death anniversary is being celebrated as a step in BJP’s mega outreach towards the community. Harmohan Singh Yadav, a former MP and a close aide of Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, was also the founder of the Mahasabha. After him, the command was handed over to Mulayam, who later became the Chief Minister of UP and even the Defense Minister of India. Harmohan Singh’s influence also increased when Mulayam became the Chief Minister in 1989. So much so, reportedly, people called him “mini CM”, and Mulayam himself addressed him as “Chhote Sahab”.

“When the country’s democracy was crushed during the Emergency, all the major parties came together and fought to save the Constitution. Chaudhary Harmohan Singh Yadav ji was also a warrior of that struggle.

While Harmohan Singh Yadav was a former MP of the Samajwadi Party, his son Sukhram Singh Yadav was also a Rajya Sabha member. Harmohan remained active in politics for decades and served in various positions as MLC, MLA, Rajya Sabha member and National President of Yadav Mahasabha. From Kanpur to Etawah, Kannauj, Farrukhabad, Firozabad and Agra in Uttar Pradesh, the Yadav vote bank was once dominated by Chaudhary Harmohan Singh Yadav.

Now the BJP is trying to rope in powerful Yadav faces to bolster its 2024 campaign, at a time when a chime in the SP’s armor is visible.

The Yadav community includes the Dhosi, Kamariya, Gwal and Dadhaur clans and the BJP has already prepared a roadmap to reach them.

Harmohan Singh’s family members moving closer to the saffron party after Mulayam’s daughter-in-law Aparna and brother Shivpal shifted to the BJP, is seen as a major setback for the Samajwadi Party, which was considered the first choice of Yadav voters for decades. , Harmohan’s grandson Mohit had joined the BJP this year ahead of the UP assembly elections. And speculation was fueled in April when Sukhram Singh Yadav, the late leader’s son, went to meet Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Sukh Ram has recently criticized SP chief Akhilesh Yadav.

According to sources, BJP aims to win all 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh in 2024. After capturing power in the state in this year’s assembly elections, the party is eyeing the core Yadav vote bank of the Samajwadi Party. After snatching SP’s stronghold Azamgarh in the recent by-elections, the BJP has further strengthened itself in the region. About 12 per cent of the Yadav community had voted for the BJP in the assembly elections this year and the party is trying to expand its base.

A total of 38 assembly seats and 10 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh are considered Yadav-dominated. These include most of the constituencies in Etah, Etawah, Kannauj, Mainpuri, Farrukhabad and Kanpur Dehat districts. Political observers say that the BJP is now eyeing to win these seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

A message can be sent through the family of Harmohan Singh Yadav to reduce the influence of SP in these seats. Although one of his sons, Sukhram, may have become closer to the BJP, another section of the family is still with the Samajwadi Party. Jagram Singh, two-time MLA of the late leader and Abhiram Singh, who was the block chief, are in the SP. Apart from him, many close relatives are still in the SP camp. Observers say it will be interesting to see if other members of Harmohan’s family switch sides in the coming months.

Harmohan Singh Yadav, who started his journey from the Gram Sabha and moved up to the Rajya Sabha, was among those who not only gave Mulayam Singh Yadav political power but also helped in the establishment of the Samajwadi Party. There was a time when the political strategy and even the cabinet of the SP government was decided from the house of Harmohan Singh Yadav. Now it seems that preparations are on to hoist the saffron flag there.

Speaking to News18, UP BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi said, “BJP is constantly bringing in people from different sections of the society, especially big faces who have influence in their communities. On the other hand, if you look at the Samajwadi Party, instead of joining the people, they are breaking their alliance.

So will the inclination of the family members of Harmohan Singh Yadav yield any result? “No caste is the slave of any particular individual or party. Harmohan ji had a good influence in Kanpur and Bundelkhand regions, he also led a large social organization (Yadav Mahasabha), and his image has been clean. If his family Come with us, it will definitely benefit BJP. His son is already associated with BJP and has been participating in various programs of BJP. Now whole family is coming with BJP and this will definitely help BJP. Will get
