Trent Boult ran riot with the new ball and dismissed Rock Capital in quick succession off Prithvi Shaw (0) and Manish Pandey (0).

David Warner lauded Rajasthan Royals’ premier pacer Trent Boult’s bowling in the powerplay, which put pressure on Delhi Capitals chasing a mammoth 200-run target. DC skipper Warner admitted that losing a few wickets in the first over made it challenging for them to chase down the target. Boult went on a rampage with the new ball and dismissed Rock Capital in quick succession off Prithvi Shaw (0) and Manish Pandey (0).

Boult ended with a match-winning spell of 3/29 as he later also claimed the scalp of Lalit Yadav. Delhi could manage just 142/9 to inflict a hat-trick of defeats in the ongoing IPL under Warner.

He said, ‘It cannot be taken credit for how good bowler Trent Boult is in the powerplay and he bowled very well. Coming out here and chasing 200 with early wickets in the powerplay was always going to be a challenge,” Warner said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

The early wickets did not allow Warner to play his natural attacking game as he waged a lone war with his second half-century in three matches, however, the southpaw’s 55-ball 65 never posed any threat.

“It is always difficult when we are losing wickets at the other end. It’s disappointing. I have been hitting a lot of fielders of late, but I will continue to go out there and defend myself.”

“We are professional athletes, and have to go back to the nets. It’s about executing, and hopefully we can regroup,” he said.

Ashwin reads batsmen well: Samson

Rajasthan Royals’ spin duo of Yuzvendra Chahal (3/27) and Ravichandran Ashwin (2/25) were at the top of their game and made life difficult for DC.

South African left-hander Rilee Rossouw looked to revive RR’s run chase but his innings was cut short for 14 when Ashwin bowled in the power-play.

“He (Ashwin) reads the batsmen very well. He is always watching the batsmen and getting signals. They had a lot of left-handers and it was important to bowl a few overs to Ash bhai,” Samson said.
