CB-CID gets one day custody of Cuddalore DMK MP in murder case

The MP is the prime accused in the murder of a 60-year-old worker at his cashew processing unit near Panruti on September 20.

The Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department (CB-CID) has been given one-day custody of Cuddalore MP TRVS Ramesh (DMK). Main accused in laborer’s murder At a cashew processing unit at Panikankuppam near Panruthi on 20 September.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Court, Cuddalore N. Prabhakar on Wednesday passed the order directing the CB-CID to produce Mr Ramesh before the court at 1.15 pm on Thursday.

The CB-CID, in which the murder case of 60-year-old K Govindarasu of Melmampattu, was recently transferred from Kadampuliyur police, had on Wednesday filed a petition before the court seeking two-day custody of the MP. Following the court order, the CB-CID team took Mr. Ramesh into its custody to inquire about the murder.

The victim Govindarasu, who worked in the MP’s cashew processing unit, was charged with stealing 7 kg of cashew nuts and allegedly assaulting the premises. A few hours later he was found dead in the unit under suspicious circumstances.

CB-CID arrested five people, all the employees of the unit were on the lookout for Mr. Ramesh in connection with the murder. While the investigation was still on, the MP surrendered in a local court in Panruti on Monday.
