CBI arrests former Assam CM Hiteshwar Saikia’s son Ashok in alleged loan scam

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Sunday arrested Ashok Saikia, son of former Assam Chief Minister Hiteshwar Saikia, from Guwahati in an alleged bank fraud case.

Sources said a CBI team raided the residence of Ashok Saikia in Guwahati’s Sarumtaria and questioned him for hours before his arrest. Officials said that the accused will be produced in the concerned tomorrow. The matter is related to the loan taken from the Assam Cooperative and Agriculture Development Bank.

An FIR was registered in 1998 and three years later the CBI took over the investigation. A charge sheet was filed and a local court issued a non-bailable warrant against him.
