In a major crackdown, the CBI is currently conducting search operations at around 40 places against officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, representatives of NGOs and middlemen for violating foreign donation norms.
He said a coordinated operation is underway on alleged violations of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act at around 40 places including Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Mysore and some places in Rajasthan.
He said that during the operation it has come to light that several government officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs, representatives of NGOs and middlemen have exchanged money for facilitating foreign donations in violation of FCRA, 2010.
He said that the agency has so far arrested around six persons, including officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs and representatives of NGOs, in this case.
So far hawala transactions have been exposed in this operation. 2 crore, he said.
