The CBI has asked Andhra Pradesh’s Cuddapah Lok Sabha MP Avinash Reddy to appear for questioning on January 28 in connection with the murder of Vivekananda Reddy, younger brother of late Chief Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in 2019, officials said on Wednesday.

He told that the agency had earlier summoned him on Tuesday but the MP sought more time after which the CBI gave him a fresh date of January 28.

According to the CBI chargesheet, Vivekananda Reddy was allegedly seeking parliamentary election ticket for himself or YS Sharmila (Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister) or YS Vijayamma (Jagan Mohan Reddy’s mother) instead of Avinash Reddy from Kadapa Lok Sabha . constituency.

Avinash Jagan is Mohan Reddy’s cousin.

The CBI had arrested Shankar Reddy in November last year and filed a supplementary charge sheet against him in January.

The central agency has said that Shankar Reddy had offered Rs 10 crore to K Gangadhar Reddy to take responsibility for the murder of Vivekananda Reddy.

The CBI has kept the investigation open to destroy the crime scene and uncover the role of other accused persons in the larger conspiracy of murder.

It has so far named 248 people as witnesses in the case and annexed their statements.

“Investigation has revealed that the murder of Vivekananda Reddy was a result of a well-planned conspiracy by T Gangi Reddy alias Yera Gangi Reddy and Shaik Dastagiri, Yaditi Sunil Yadav and Gajala Uma Shankar Reddy, who had different names to be part of. and there was personal enmity/intention of conspiracy to murder,” the CBI had said in the charge sheet earlier.

Dastagiri, who once worked as Vivekananda Reddy’s driver, later turned approver and gave a confessional statement before a junior civil judge at Proddatur.

Citing confessional statements, the CBI said that Gangi Reddy, with the help of Sunil Yadav, Uma Shankar Reddy and Dastagiri, had executed the murder.

The conspiracy to murder was hatched by Gangi Reddy a month before the crime.

The CBI had filed a charge sheet in the murder case on October 26, 2021 and thereafter filed a supplementary charge sheet on January 31, 2022.
