Center asks 11 states to intensify efforts against serotype-2 dengue

The Central Government has called a high level meeting on the emerging challenge of serotype-2 dengue cases. 11 states Different suggestions have been given to stop the flow of increasing dengue cases.

States reporting cases of serotype – II dengue are Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, MP, UP, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Telangana.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan highlighted the emerging challenge of serotype-II dengue in 11 states, which is associated with more cases and complications than other forms of the disease.

He suggested that the states should take steps like early detection of cases, operation of fever helpline, adequate storage of testing kits, larvicides and medicines, deployment of rapid response teams for rapid testing.

He also suggested necessary public health action like fever survey, contact tracing, vector control, alerting blood banks to maintain adequate stock of blood and blood components, especially platelets.

The Union Health Ministry said in a statement that the states were also urged to run IEC campaigns regarding helplines, vector control methods, source reduction in homes and dengue symptoms.

He suggested that the states should take steps like early detection of cases, operation of fever helpline; Adequate storage of test kits, larvicides and medicines; Deployment of rapid response teams for rapid screening and necessary public health action such as fever surveys, contact tracing, vector control; Alerting blood banks to maintain adequate reserves of blood and blood components, especially platelets, among other things.

States were also requested to run information, education and communication campaigns about helplines, vector control methods, source reduction in households and symptoms of dengue.

Earlier, the Health Ministry had issued advisories to these states on August 10 and September 10.
