,

Officials familiar with the development said the delimitation committee has sent its final proposal regarding the delimitation of municipal wards in the capital to the Center for its approval. Officials said the Center may approve the report and issue a gazette notification within this week.

“The final delimitation report will show slight geographical variation in ward boundaries and marginal reduction in the size of population per ward,” an official said.

Citing an example where minor changes were made, the official cited the example of Mayur Vihar Phase-I, which has a total population – 93,381 – with the average population per ward – from 50,000 to more than 70,000 – as referred to the Delimitation Committee by political parties. It has been told.

“In the last report, the population of such wards has come down marginally by a few thousand. Apart from this, minor changes have also been made in the boundaries of the ward.

The three-member delimitation committee, headed by state election commissioner Vijay Dev, was constituted on July 8 and given four months to complete the delimitation exercise. On 12 September, the SEC published the draft delimitation report and provided a period of three weeks (until October 3) for public suggestions and objections.

An official said that after the publication of the gazette notification on the delimitation of wards, a separate notification will be issued for the reservation of wards.
