Center reviews stock limit position on edible oils ahead of festive season

Ahead of the festive season, the Center held a meeting with all the states to review the stock limit position on edible oils. It directed the states and union territories to ensure that the consumers get the benefits of the initiatives taken by the Center to reduce the prices.

The central government also advised to expedite the process of issuance of stock limit notifications in all states/UTs ahead of the festive season.

Accordingly, Uttar Pradesh stated that they have already issued stock limit order on October 12, 2021, which will bring down the prices.

Meanwhile, other states are either in consultation with stakeholders or have already submitted proposals to the state government for approval.

Rajasthan, Gujarat and Haryana have already submitted proposals to the state government and the stock limit is expected to be implemented soon, a press release said.

Maharashtra, Odisha, Kerala, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Union Territory of Chandigarh have started the process of fixing stock limits and will soon notify relevant limits for different categories.

In an earlier order, the Center directed the states to ensure that the full benefit of duty cut by the Center is passed on to the consumers so that they can buy edible oil at a cheaper price.

This will also help in reducing food inflation and bring relief to the common consumers by reducing the prices of edible oils.

DFPD is closely monitoring the prices of edible oils and its availability to the consumers. This is especially important in the context of the upcoming festive season in which the demand for edible oils will increase, the release said.
