New Delhi: Union Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah On Saturday, the Center said that the Center will soon come out with a new cooperative policy and work closely with the states to strengthen the cooperative movement.
Shah, who is also the Union Home Minister, also announced that the number of primary agriculture co-operative societies (PAC) will be increased to 3 lakh in the next five years. At present, there are around 65,000 PACs.
He was speaking here at the first cooperative conference or the national cooperative conference. NS ministry The collaboration was formed in July this year. Addressing a gathering of over 2,100 representatives of various cooperative societies and nearly 6 crore online participants, Shah said some people wondered why the Center created this new ministry as cooperatives are a state subject.
Shah said there could be a legal backlash on this, but he does not want to get into this argument.
He insisted that the Center would cooperate with the states and “there would be no friction”.
“We will work with all the states to take forward the cooperative movement,” he said. He said that the Ministry of Cooperation has been formed to make this sector strong and modern.
On the proposed new cooperative policy, Shah said that in 2002 a policy was brought by the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and now the Modi government will start working on a new policy.
Describing the cooperative movement today as more relevant than ever, Shah said that cooperatives can contribute a lot to the development of the country.
According to him, cooperatives will play a vital role in making India a USD 5 trillion economy.
Referring to the problems faced by cooperatives on the taxation front and other issues, Shah said he was aware of the concerns and assured that no injustice would be done to them.
