Centralized Counselling: West Bengal Education Minister, Vice Chancellors meeting tomorrow | Kolkata News – Times of India

KOLKATA: The state higher education department has scheduled a meeting with all vice-chancellors of all state-run universities to discuss the possibilities of conducting undergraduate (UG) admissions and centralized counseling at Bikas Bhawan on June 2.
The meeting which was earlier scheduled to be held on May 19 was canceled on May 18 and the department informed the Vice Chancellors that the meeting has been canceled due to unavoidable circumstances.
The Madhyamik results will be published on 3rd June and it is largely expected that the Higher Secondary results will be published in the middle of June. Admission to the college is likely to start after the HS results are out.
The college principals and the concerned university officials are now eager to know the modalities of the admission process as many of them have felt that if the process is done centrally then buffer time is required for implementation.
A principal of a city college said, “Till last year online admission was done by the college authorities. If it is conducted at the center it will be a big relief for us but at the end of the university, the responsibilities will increase a lot. So we are looking forward to some instructions to get ready.”
From the past few years, B.Ed University has been conducting centralized admission to fill seats in B.Ed colleges across the state. “We have been following a centralized process for admissions for the past few years and it is a very systematic process as we have experienced,” said. State Education Minister Bratya Basu had recently indicated that a centralized counseling could be started from the next academic session.
The state had first proposed to implement centralized counseling in 2011, but it could not be implemented.
In the pre-pandemic days, Presidency University, Jadavpur University, St. XavierAnd some colleges, such as Lady Brabourne, Bethune, conducted admissions tests, which were instructed to close due to the pandemic.
