The central government has sent letters to eight states, Bengal being one of them. It states that the state governments along with the Center should identify invalid Aadhaar cards and those who do not have Aadhaar cards.

A war of words has broken out between the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over a letter sent by the Center to the West Bengal government.

The central government has sent letters to eight states, Bengal being one of them. It has been said that the state governments along with the Center should identify illegal Aadhaar cards and those people who do not have Aadhaar cards. The central government has also specified various sectors where this exercise should begin.

on Monday, Mamata Banerjee Counterattack the Center on this issue.

He said this was an indirect way of implementing the Citizenship Amendment Act and the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in West Bengal, and his government would not follow through.

“Eliminating invalid Aadhaar cards means implementing CAA in an indirect way. They are trying to implement NRC, they have also selected the areas. Do you remember that time people protested, so many people were killed and people did not get justice? Whenever elections come, the BJP uses polarisation.” He also alleged that it was a conspiracy to target a community.

Sources say that this is the second such letter from the Center in which illegal Aadhaar cards are mentioned.

Mamta Banerjee government has strongly opposed NRC and CAA.

BJP spokesperson Samik Bhattacharya said, ‘Our main aim is to stop illegal people from settling in India. There is a great need for Aadhaar verification. This is the main ideology on which our party stands. Don’t let him follow, we will.

Further attacking the Center and the Union Home Minister, Mamta Banerjee said that all the violence in West Bengal is well-planned. He also strongly criticized Amit Shah’s statement that the Bengal government would fall by 2025. The CM said that the Home Minister has no right to make such a statement and demanded his resignation.
