Chandigarh: The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is trying to facilitate the creation of a national “Third Front”, which includes anti-BJP and anti-Congress, as they ride on an “anti-BJP mood” on the farmers’ issue. Huh. parties.

Five-time Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, the INLD’s patron, intends to start work on the front during a rally to be held in Jind on September 25.

The rally is to mark the birth anniversary of his father Devi Lal, a Jat farmer leader from Haryana who was the Deputy Prime Minister of India in the late 1980s.

Leaders like JD(S)’s Deve Gowda, SP’s Mulayam Singh Yadav, NC’s Farooq Abdullah and Akali Dal’s Parkash Singh Badal are expected to attend the rally. The invitees include West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, RLD’s Jayant Choudhary and NCP’s Sharad Pawar.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, whom Chautala met in Delhi earlier this month, where is So that he will not be able to attend the program.

Chautala, who was serving a 10-year sentence after being convicted in the recruitment scam, was finally released from jail in July this year. Apart from visiting the state, he has met several leaders whom he has invited.

His son Abhay Chautala, who heads the INLD, told ThePrint on Tuesday that the idea of a third front would be put up on the day of the rally and if everyone agrees, a later meeting would be planned.

“A certain situation is arising in the country, especially in view of the farmers’ agitation which has been going on for more than nine months,” he said. “This is the time to come together and fight the anti-BJP parties. Given the condition of the Congress, they cannot do this.

Abhay said his party has been opposing the agriculture laws since the day they were passed.

“More than 70 percent of the people in India are farmers. And no party or politician or right minded person can ignore their interests,” he said.

“We are opposed to all three central agricultural laws and if all agree, the first common program to be announced by the Third Front would be to repeal agricultural laws and bring a law on MSP.”

INLD wants to regain lost ground: Experts

While some experts say that the rally may not lead to anything political, others say it could be an attempt by the INLD to regain lost ground.

Senior journalist and Haryana expert Sanjeev Sharma said, “Devi Lal was a great figure in national politics and every year when her birth anniversary is celebrated, a rally is organized and most of these leaders come together on one platform. ”

“Almost every year there is talk of a Third Front at this stage but nothing concrete has come out of it,” he said. “This time the event has an added flair because of the farmers’ agitation, especially after the Maha Panchayats in Muzaffarnagar and Karnal.”

Department of Political Science, Central University, Haryana Prof. Ramesh Kumar believes that the rally and asan is an attempt by the INLD to reclaim the legacy of Devi Lal, which it has lost to its breakaway faction, the Jannayak Janata Party, which is currently sharing power with the BJP in the state. Used to be.

“In my opinion, the Third Front is too much to ask, especially when the situation in the INLD within the state itself is bad. However, the rally seems to be a serious bid by the INLD to consolidate its position for the foreseeable future,” said Prof Ramesh.

“Farmers are already very upset with JJP for standing with BJP. And this will cause him a big political loss in the next election. INLD feels that this is the right time to return to the Jat-centric politics of Haryana.

INLD does not have a single MLA in the state assembly. Abhay Chautala was the lone MLA of the party, but had resigned from his seat in Ellenabad in January over the farmer’s issue.

Meanwhile, the JJP has scrapped the plan of the rally and the Third Front.

“We are on the first front. Why would we join the Third Front,” JJP leader and Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala had said commented In a recent press conference.
