Chhath Puja 2021: Know the date, time and importance of the four-day festival

Chhath Puja is a four-day religious festival celebrated by Hindus. The festival is celebrated with religious fervor. This festival is mainly celebrated by people in Bihar, Jharkhand state and parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, Mumbai and Chhattisgarh. During Chhath Puja, devotees worship Surya or Lord Surya and Shashthi Devi (Chhath Maiya). Devotees believe that worshiping her brings prosperity to their family and promotes prosperity.

Chhath Puja 2021 will be celebrated this year from Monday, November 8 to Thursday, November 11. The women of the family observe a fast and perform rituals as part of the puja for the happiness of the family and the well being of the sons.

Chhath Puja 2021: Significance and method of worship

Different rituals are performed every day in this four-day long festival.

Day 1: This year the festival of Chhath Puja will start on November 8 with Nahay-Khay. On this day, sattvik food is prepared and devotees also offer pumpkin rice to the deity. Devotees also take holy dip in the rivers. The worshiping women eat only one meal on this day.

Day 2: This day is for Kharna, which is falling on 9th November this year. On this day women fast from sunrise to sunset without drinking water.

Day 3: On this day falling on 10th November this year devotees will perform aarti and worship Chhathi Maiya. Prasad for Chhath Puja is also prepared on this day. All the offerings and fruits are placed in a basket and taken to the Chhath Ghat near rivers or ponds. Devotees also offer Arghya to the setting sun in the evening. Usually, devotees stand in the river to offer Arghya to Lord Surya.

Day 4: The four-day long festival will conclude on November 11 this year. On the fourth day, people worship the rising sun at the Chhath Ghats. The day marks the Usha Arghya, where devotees break their fast by offering arghya to the rising sun in the morning.
