Meanwhile, Dhoni on Thursday successfully underwent surgery on his left knee at a hospital in Mumbai, raising hopes of playing in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League next year. The cricketer, who led Chennai Super Kings to their fifth IPL title, flew from Ahmedabad to Mumbai after Monday’s final.

He consulted renowned sports orthopedic surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, who is also on the BCCI medical panel and has performed surgeries on several top Indian cricketers.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed to PTI, “Yes, Dhoni underwent a successful knee surgery on Thursday at Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai. He is fine and underwent surgery in the morning.”

Another close source said, “He will be discharged in a day or two. He will rest for a few days before extensive rehabilitation begins. It is now expected that he will have the strength to be fit to play in the next IPL.” There’ll be enough time.” CSK management told PTI.

Speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony after his fifth IPL win, MS Dhoni announced that he would not be retiring from the Indian Premier League. The CSK skipper said announcing his retirement would be an “easy thing” but he wants to train for the next nine months and try to play next season as a “gift” to his fans.
