Senior Congress leader and former finance minister P. Chidambaram on Tuesday slammed the BJP government in Gujarat over the Morbi bridge collapse incident, saying the incident exposed hollow governance in the state.

Addressing the media in Ahmedabad, the former minister said that no one took responsibility and apologized for the deaths of over 100 innocent people.

“The name of Gujarat has been put to shame by the Morbi bridge collapse. The most shocking development is that no one from the government or the ruling party has apologized for the tragedy. No one has resigned to take the responsibility,” he said.

The former minister was in Gujarat to campaign for his party. He also slammed the state government saying that it is being “run from Delhi” while the chief minister of the state is only in name.

He also hit out at AAP and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal over air pollution in Delhi and alleged that the AAP government in the national capital has completely failed to tackle pollution. According to him, both the AAP and BJP governments talk of big and little work.

The Gujarat Assembly elections will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5 and the counting of votes will take place on December 8.
