Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana said over 27,000 police personnel have been deployed for security duties in the national capital and counter-terrorism measures have been intensified in view of the Republic Day.

The National COVID Immunization Program, which initially started on January 16 last year with healthcare and frontline workers, was gradually extended to all people over the age of 18.

He had mentioned that anti-terrorist measures include nakabandi (nakka bandi) at various places, checking of vehicles, hotels, lodges and dharamshalas and various verification operations like tenants, servants, labourers.

In the last two months, anti-terrorist measures have been intensified, the commissioner has said.

Counter drone technology is being used for air space security. Asthana had said that the security in and around the area where the Republic Day celebrations will take place has also been secured with the help of Delhi Police and other agencies.

He had asked to create awareness that the police is also putting facts and important information through social media so that no anti-social element runs a misinformation campaign.

Regarding the traffic arrangements, Shri Asthana had said that an advisory has already been issued stating special restrictions on the routes so that there is no inconvenience to the general public.

According to a recent order, operation of sub-conventional air platforms, including UAVs, paragliders and hot air balloons, has been banned over the national capital in view of the Republic Day celebrations.

The order came into effect from January 20 and will remain in effect till February 15.
