Children of Coimbatore take their first flight from Saranalayam Home, flight to Chennai

Chennai-bound IndiGo aircraft 6E 6918 took off from Coimbatore International Airport at 10 am on Saturday, a special moment for 15 passengers.

They were all children, residents of Saranalayam Children’s Home in Kinathukadavu, and were flying to Chennai, where various activities have been arranged for them.

Children took this as their maiden flight under ‘Flight of Fantasy’, a joint initiative of Coimbatore North Ladies Circle 11, Coimbatore North Round Table 20 with Madras Anchorage Round Table 100.

Murugesan, a Class X student, said before departure that he was excited about his flight journey with his friends. His 11-year-old friend Rohit also shared his excitement about seeing a plane and flying on it.

Deepender Singh, president of Coimbatore North Round Table 20, said the children had expressed their desire to fly during the organization’s visit to Saranalayam a few months back. He added that the children would get gaming activities, good food and rest time on the beach before flying to Coimbatore in the evening.

The children were accompanied by a male and a female caretaker of the Sharanalayam.

Sridevi Vishnu, chairperson of Coimbatore North Ladies Circle 11, said that Round Table and Ladies Circle were planning more initiatives for the less privileged children.

The office bearers of Coimbatore North Round Table 20, Vice President Jitendra Sabarwal, Treasurer Ragulan Shekhar, Secretary Rahul Krishnagopal and Convener of ‘Flight of Fantasy’ M Aravind were present.
