Choti Diwali 2022: Significance

According to Hindu legends, this day is celebrated as Lord Krishna’s wife – Satyabhama beheaded the demon king Narakasura. The festival of Narak Chaturdashi is popular in Maharashtra and South India and on this day people take bath before sunrise and apply apatan and fragrance to mark the victory of good over evil.

Choti Diwali 2021 Puja Mantra and Method

One of the main aspects of Naraka Chaturdashi includes donating lamps and worshiping Yamraj, the god of death. Stand facing the south direction, put some black sesame seeds in the water and offer it to Lord Yamraj. Now chant the following mantra-

Yamay Namah Yamam Tarpayami.

According to legends, if you worship and bow down to Yamraj by taking 14 names on this day, it can save you from going to hell after death. In the chapter of Vriddha Manu on page 256 of the holy book of Madan Parijat, the names of the god of death are as follows- Yamaraja:

Yamay Dharmarajaya Mrityave Chantakaya Ch, Vaivasvataya Kaabil Sarvabhutakshayaya Ch.

Audumbaraya Dadhnaya Neel Parameshthine, Vrakodaray Chitraya Chitraguptay Vai Namah.

Apart from this, most of the people make Rangoli at home, also make designs and footprints using rice paste. Old diyas are lit and devotees worship Goddess Lakshmi and Rama in the evening. Aartis and bhajans are sung in the honor of the deities.
