The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, which conducts the exam, said it cannot be called a paper leak and called it an act of mischief.

Purported photographs of two pages of the Class 12 state board exam’s Life Science question paper surfaced on WhatsApp two and a half hours after the exams began on Saturday.

The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, which conducts the exam, said it cannot be called a paper leak and called it an act of mischief.

Council chairman Chiranjib Bhattacharya said that some vested interests might have circulated the picture of the question paper long after it began, when it was drawing to a close.

“If the pictures are circulated two and a half hours after the commencement of the examination, what is the big deal in it? Candidates can leave the exam hall till that time and if anyone clicks a picture of two pages outside the venue and circulates them on social media, it does not reflect the conduct of the exam in any way,” Bhattacharya said. told PTI.

He appealed to the ‘mischief makers’ to desist from such ‘childish pranks’ and help in the smooth conduct of the ongoing examinations in the interest of every candidate.

Bhattacharya said that CCTV surveillance at 2349 locations and use of radio frequency devices in some of the more than 200 sensitive spots to detect the presence of any electronic devices has made the possibility of question paper leak almost impossible.

Despite this, the Council is cautious, he said.

The sensitive sites are located in different districts and most of them are in Malda.

Bhattacharya said the council is looking into the source of circulation of the question paper on WhatsApp and will submit a report to the government.

While there were reports of question paper images being circulated on WhatsApp in Class 10 state board exams this year, 2019, and earlier, this is the first time that such an incident has been reported during the Higher Secondary (HS) exams in recent times. Got it.

The HS exams started in West Bengal from March 14.
