Climate activists stick their hands to the 2 Francisco Goya painting in Spain

Police said both the activists have been detained.

Police said two climate activists shook hands in the frames of two paintings by Spanish master Francisco Goya at the Prado Museum in Madrid on Saturday.

The protest did not damage the painting, but protesters scattered “+1,5C” on the wall between the two artworks, a reference to the Paris Agreement that aimed to cap warming to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels was.

Climate activist group Extinction Rebellion posted a video online that showed two activists holding hands on a painting before security officers at the museum went inside.

The group said the two artworks in question were “The Naked Maja” and “The Clothed Maja”.

According to news reports, four activists were arrested.

Last Generation climate activists called their protest “a desperate and scientifically based cry that simply cannot be construed as vandalism”.

He warned that the protests would continue until more attention was paid to climate change.

Other works have seen the use of cakes or mashed potatoes in recent weeks.

All those paintings were covered with glass and were not damaged.
