LUDHIANA: On the eve of Independence Day, when the city is on high alert, a group of miscreants opened fire on their rivals in Dugri Phase-1 market. The accused fired several rounds, in which two people were injured.
Also, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is also in Ludhiana for the Independence Day celebrations.
The injured have been identified as 31-year-old Harsimran Singh Kohli and Dugri’s 21-year-old friend Vicky, both realty.
Joint Commissioner of Police (Rural) Ravcharan Singh Brar said, “Baljit Singh had a property dispute with someone and Harsimran was a witness to that dispute. Baljeet was asking her to stay away from the matter. On Sunday evening too, a scuffle broke out between them over the same issue, however after that Harsimran and Vicky left from there and reached Phase-1 Market. A few minutes later, Baljit’s aide Jatinder Pal Singh reached the market with his accomplices and opened fire on both of them.
Brar said Harsimran was shot in the thigh and Vicky in the stomach. Both were taken to CMC Hospital.
The official said an FIR would be registered after recording the statements of the victims.
