‘CM is aware of the issues of small and small scale units’

The four-day fifth edition of the Made in Madurai exhibition began at the city’s Maditsiya auditorium on Friday.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Finance Minister PTR Palanivel Thyaga Rajan said that such expo will encourage small, small and medium scale entrepreneurs. Participating in the exhibition not only benefits the public, but also the entrepreneurs, as they can share among others the use of technology by this sector.

Complimenting Maditsiya for organizing such an expo, he said that Chief Minister MK Stalin was aware of the issues relating to small and small scale units. “Small Entrepreneurs need a lot of help…” and assured that the State Government will do its best to uplift the sector in a phased manner.

In his presidential address, Speaker of the Legislative Assembly M. Appavu said that Mr. Stalin had organized a mega conference in Coimbatore within a few months of assuming office and signed MoUs worth Rs 35,000 crore. He said, the government is here to encourage the MSME sector and assured that the state would soon see a tangible change for the better.

The Speaker also recalled how the DMK government had helped the MSME sector in the past and pointed to the efforts made by late chairman PTR Palanivelarajan, through whose efforts, Maditsiya built a private-public property on Madurai’s corporation land. Collector S. Congratulating Anish Shekhar said that the master plan of Madurai was ready. The district administration will extend all possible help in providing infrastructure to the industry.

Under the New Entrepreneur cum Enterprise Development Scheme (NEEDS), the district had made its inroads as many youth and new-entrepreneurs were benefitted. “I am glad to see some of them participate in the expo here,” he said.

MADITSSIA President MS Sampath, in his welcome address, said that 130 stalls – all from Madurai – have set up their stalls covering the auto sector, engineering, food processing, textiles and textiles.

He said that MADITSSIA bought three acres of land near Kapalur and proposed to build a convention center soon.

Former chairman KR Gyansanbandhan said that the central and state governments should give more relaxation to MSME units as entrepreneurs in Tier-II cities.
