CM Vijayan says Kerala faced new crises during the second wave of Kovid

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan It was said on Friday that unlike the first wave, the state has faced several new crises during the second wave amid rising cases of Kovid-19 in Kerala.

Vijayan said, “The average number of active cases during the period from September 3 to 9 was 2,42,278. Only 13 per cent of the patients were admitted to hospitals. Only one per cent of the patients were admitted to the ICU. There this period During the period 1,87,561 new cases were reported. The number of cases has come down to 21,000 as compared to last week.

“The ICMR’s first zero prevalence study found that during the first wave, the number of cases in Kerala was very low. Only 11 per cent of the people in the state were infected,” he said.

According to the Chief Minister, high population density, urban and rural disparity, and high proportion of elderly and people with lifestyle diseases are the root causes of high mortality rate in Kerala.

“Due to the high percentage of the non-infected population and the high population density, the number of patients in the second wave has increased significantly,” Vijayan said.

“Despite the natural increase in the number of deaths, the death toll has remained unchanged, despite such a large increase in the number of patients,” he said.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the first dose of the COVID vaccine for the age group of 18 years and above is expected to be completed by 30 September.

Vijayan further said that discussions are going on to reopen educational institutions in the state.

“Discussions are on with experts and experienced people in this regard. The revival of our industrial and commercial sectors should also be immediate. Interventions will be made as needed,” he said.

He said, “As soon as colleges open, the facility of COVID vaccination will be made available to the students. All students should take at least one dose of COVID vaccine before entering the college.”

The Chief Minister informed that 78 percent of the adult population in Kerala has received the first dose of the Kovid vaccine.
