Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on May 6 accused the Congress of trying to make a “mockery” of the Hindu faith by proposing a ban on Bajrang Dal, which the majority community would not tolerate and accept.

He also alleged that those who do not like ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ (One India, Great India) are supporting ‘anti-national’ organizations like ‘Popular Front of India’ (PFI).

Mr Adityanath, who is also the head priest of the Gorakhnath Math, said at a public meeting at Koppa in Chikkamagaluru district Constituency KarnatakaThat he came from the land of Ram in Uttar Pradesh to the land of Hanuman (Karnataka).

“The relationship between the two states underlines the fact that they are integrally one and embody the concept of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’,” he said.

“Those who do not like Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat, somewhere encourage anti-social and anti-national organizations like PFI and on the other hand, they want to ban organizations committed to patriotism and social service . Banning Bajrang Dal means that Congress is trying to make a mockery of Hindu faith. The Hindu community will not tolerate this and accept it,” the BJP leader said.

Noting that the Ram temple issue in Ayodhya which was pending for over 500 years was resolved by the “power of the slogan”, Mr Adityanath asked the crowd to repeat after him, ‘ Jaykara Veer Bajrangi, Har Har Mahadev,

As soon as Mr. Adityanath raised the slogan, the crowd followed him. He then appealed to the people present there to take this slogan to every section of the society, so that the supporters of PFI would “bite the dust”.

He claimed, “PFI got encouragement when the Congress and JD(S) governments were in power in Karnataka.”

But there is peace, harmony and security because of the ‘double engine government’ (of the BJP). As Uttar Pradesh has become a peaceful state, the double engine government in Karnataka tried to break the backbone of PFI by banning it. The Uttar Pradesh chief minister also invited the people of Karnataka to attend the grand opening of the Ram temple in Ayodhya in January next year.

In its manifesto for the assembly elections released earlier this week, the Congress said it was determined to take firm and decisive action against individuals and organizations that spread hatred between communities on the basis of caste and religion.

The party said: “We believe that the law and constitution are sacred and cannot be violated by individuals and organizations like Bajrang Dal, PFI, whether promoting enmity or hatred between majority or minority communities. We will take decisive action as per law including banning such organizations.”
