He told that when the boy did not open the door of his room on Sunday evening, the caretaker of the hostel informed the police.

“Police reached the spot and broke open the door and found the boy hanging from the ceiling fan,” Singh said.

The deceased boy had passed class 12 and had unsuccessfully attempted JEE-Mains and later joined a coaching institute in Kota in July last year.

“The boy was allegedly not attending coaching classes for almost a month,” Singh said.

The reason behind the extreme step taken by the student is yet to be ascertained as no suicide note has been recovered from his room, he said.

“The body has been kept at the mortuary of New Medical College Hospital for postmortem after the arrival of his family members,” he added.

Kota, which is a hub of coaching centers preparing students for engineering and medical entrance exams, is set to see at least 15 student deaths by suicide in 2022.
