Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee and his wife Rujira have moved the Delhi High Court to quash the ED summons issued against them in the alleged coal mining scam. He has also challenged the jurisdiction of the matter and demanded for not calling Delhi and investigation to be held in Kolkata.

On September 6, Abhishek was grilled in Delhi for more than eight hours. When he was out of questioning, he had said, “This matter is from Bengal, but they have called me to Delhi. I am here and I have cooperated. They (BJP) cannot contest elections from us politically, so they are doing it.”

The ED had summoned Rujira on September 1. She had earlier written to the ED that she is a mother of two and in this COVID-19 situation, it would not be possible to go to Delhi putting her children at risk. However, he said that he is ready for questioning at his residence.

Sources in the Abhishek camp said that they will cooperate with the ED legally, but at the same time fight the jurisdiction of the case.

In their appeal, Abhishek and Rujira have questioned why Abhishek was called again within 48 hours even after eight hours of interrogation.

He has also raised the point that ED is harassing him in the name of investigation.
