Cold wave conditions in Delhi, IMD predicts light rain

The minimum temperature in Delhi fell to 7 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal, on Tuesday as fog engulfed the national capital.

The temperature was recorded at 11.8 degree Celsius at around 2 pm on Wednesday.

The city is currently in the grip of a cold wave and this has prompted many homeless people to shift to night shelters.

Meanwhile, in its weekly forecast, the Meteorological Department predicted that the minimum temperature in the national capital is likely to remain in single digits for the entire week, except Thursday.

Apart from this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) also said that northwest India including Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh will receive light to moderate rainfall during February 2-4.

“Scattered light to moderate rain likely over Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on February 2, widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh on February 3 and 4. is in February. 3,” the IMD said.

La Nia cold conditions:

Weak ‘La Nia’ conditions are currently active in the polar Pacific region, which will lead to cold weather over other parts of North India.

La Nia causes cold waves of wind that blow over Afghanistan, Iran and the Hindu Kush mountains and subsequently flow over the Indian region, lowering the temperature.
