The year was 1996, and the Kola Wars were raging. Despite Pepsi’s celeb-filled commercials, Coke still had a large market share, so the second-ranked brand decided to launch its biggest campaign ever: Called “Pepsi Stuff,” it would soon have a huge market share. The infamous commercial is shown which means that if you just bought enough of their product, you can use “Pepsi Points” to buy sunglasses, a leather jacket… and maybe a Harrier jet? Pepsi recognized that the military aircraft’s astronomical “price” was high enough to indicate it was a joke, but college student John Leonard saw this as a challenge and decided to give up his hoax. Enlisting the help (and funding) of mountaineering friend Todd Hoffman, Leonard devised a plan to receive the biggest prize of all—even if it never existed in the first place. Captivating, shot in a unique style and infused with mid-’90s music and culture, Pepsi, where’s my jet? Leonard sits down with Hoffman, the commercial’s creative team, and, in fact, the unexpectedly involved public figures, to tell the legendary story of the kid who sued Pepsi for a fighter jet, and became the hero of a new generation.
