1.2 million tickets have been sold for the Commonwealth Games starting in Birmingham on 28 July, with organizers saying the women’s cricket match between India and Pakistan has “really caught the interest” of the local public. Women’s cricket is making its debut at the Commonwealth Games, and India and Pakistan will meet at Edgbaston on 31 July. The city is home to a substantial number of people of Indian and Pakistani origin. Speaking to PTI, Birmingham Games CEO Ian Reid said that while the semi-final and final tickets have already been taken, he expects a sell-out crowd for the India-Pakistan match as well.

“I’m a big cricket fan myself. India are in the same group as Pakistan, which has really caught interest here in Birmingham. It’s an iconic venue, your men’s team has played here recently in the last few weeks. So that’s for sure. Roop will be one of the highlights of the Games,” Reid said.

“The semi-final and final tickets are probably sold out with the expectation that India and England will be there. India and Pakistan will be close to capacity. We will see an uptick in ticket sales very close to the event. So I expect an India-Pakistan game soon.” It will be sold.” More than 5000 athletes will take part in the Games, which will be the largest sporting event in the UK since the 2012 London Olympics.

“We have sold 1.2 million tickets for the event. We expect this number to increase as we get closer to the Games. London is by far the largest sporting event in the UK since 2012.

“We will have about 45,000 volunteers and salaried staff working on this event. This is a huge event for the region and the city,” Reid said.

All 72 Commonwealth members have confirmed their participation in the multi-sport event.
