Murali Sreeshankar won the silver medal in men’s long jump at the Commonwealth Games 2022 with a best jump of 8.08m. He achieved the feat with his fifth jump, losing most of the finals medal spots. Lakhan Nair of Bahamas won the gold medal. Nair also had a best jump of 8.08m, but his second best of 7.98m was better than Sreeshankar’s 7.84m.

Under the rules, if two jumpers are tied at the same distance, the one with the better second best effort will be ranked next.

Jovan van Vuren (8.06m) of South Africa won the bronze medal.

The second Indian, Mohammad Anees Yahia, finished fifth with a best jump of 7.97m.

Sreeshankar’s silver was the best among Indian men’s long jumpers at the CWG. Suresh Babu won the bronze medal in the 1978 edition.

Among women, Prajusha Maliyakkal won a silver medal at the 2010 edition in Delhi, while veteran Anju Bobby George won a bronze medal in 2002.
