A complaint petition was filed in a court in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur against IT Minister Mohammad Israel Mansoori for visiting Vishnupad temple in Gaya on Wednesday. Muzaffarpur social activist Chandra Kishore Parashar filed a complaint demanding registration of an FIR against the minister for “hurting religious sentiments of Hindus”.

“My client said in his complaint that the minister being a Muslim should not have visited Vishnupad temple as only those who follow Sanatan Dharma are allowed to visit the temple.

“My client demanded registration of an FIR against the minister for hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus. The court will hear the matter on September 2.

Earlier in the day the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Mansoori expressed dismay over the controversy over his cabinet colleague visiting the temple. Speaking to reporters at the assembly complex in Patna, Kumar blamed the controversy on the “divisive” politics of his former ally BJP.

“They (BJP) want to divide the society by raising non-issues. What is their anger? Have their ministers not accompanied me to temples?” asked the JD(U) supremo. Pasmanda Muslim Mansoori accompanied the CM on a visit to Gaya earlier this week, during which he offered prayers at the Vishnupad temple. BJP leaders had created a ruckus in the premises citing a notice board which said that “only followers of Sanatan Dharma” would be allowed to enter.
