Conference of DGP, IGP in Delhi from today; PM Shah will address the annual meeting

News agency PTI quoted officials as saying that the three-day conference of heads of all state police forces and paramilitary organizations will begin today i.e. January 20. PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval will address the conference.

According to officials, cyber security, war on drugs, situation in Jammu and Kashmir are among the top agenda items for the conference. Apart from this, border management, cross-border threats and maritime security are also expected to be discussed in the annual meeting. Other issues that may come up for discussion during the deliberations are threat from Khalistani extremists, threat to economy, cryptocurrency, Maoist violence and Northeast insurgency.

According to the official, around 350 top police officers of the country at the level of Director General and Inspector General will participate in the conference.

Till 2013, the annual meet was held in the national capital, however, in 2014, when the Modi government came to power, it was decided to hold the event outside Delhi.

The conference was held at Guwahati in 2014, Rann of Kutch in 2015, National Police Academy at Hyderabad in 2016, BSF Academy at Tekanpur in 2017, Pune in 2019.

In 2020 it was held virtually due to the COVID pandemic while in 2021 the conference was held in Lucknow.

Another official told PTI that the number of professional sessions and topics have increased significantly with the focus on improving policing in the service of the people.

Prior to 2014, deliberations largely focused only on national security matters. However, after 2014, these conferences have focused on national security as well as core policing issues, including crime prevention and detection, community policing, law and order, improving the image of the police, etc., the official said.
